Transitioning to Employment: Preparing for the Journey
Excerpt: Transition is the passage from one stage of development to another. For young adults who have learning disabilities, this transition stage is critical to the rest of their lives. In this context, transition refers to the passage of the learning disabled youth from high school into the adult world of work. The path to work will take many turns and on the way the learning disabled person must be prepared for the bumps in the road and the success that may lie ahead. (added 3-14-04)

 

The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program is the centerpiece of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999 and has been incorporated as part of President Bush's New Freedom Initiative. It is a comprehensive national program designed to provide SSA beneficiaries with disabilities more choices for receiving the employment, vocational rehabilitation (VR), and other support services they need to obtain and maintain employment, as well as increase provider incentives to serve these individuals.
