Feds Recall More Jewelry Due to Toxic Cadmium

Federal regulators said Thursday they have found high levels of the toxic metal cadmium in trinkets that were distributed for free to children at some doctor and dentist offices over the past five years. The news came as the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of nearly 70,000 charm bracelets and rings—the fourth time this year that the federal government has said cheap Chinese-made jewelry was being pulled from shelves because of cadmium, a known carcinogen.

2010 Sunscreen Guide: How Does Your Sunscreen Rate?

EWG’s fourth annual Sunscreen Guide gives low marks to the current crop of sunscreen products, with a few notable exceptions. EWG researchers recommend only a small fraction of more than 500 beach and sport sunscreens for this season. The reason? A surge in exaggerated SPF claims above 50 and new disclosures about potentially hazardous ingredients, in particular recently developed government data linking vitamin A to accelerated growth of skin tumors and lesions.
 

'Toy Story 3' Partnership With Toys R Us May Be Toxic For Kids

On Saturday, June 19 Teamsters, concerned parents, environmental health and consumer activists will leaflet movie theaters showing "Toy Story 3" in more than 25 cities across America including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, New York, Seattle, and Tampa. They will distribute comic strips and information detailing the harmful poison plastic contained in "Toy Story 3" toys being sold at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Co's (KKR) Toys R Us.

VA Launches Program for Soldiers Exposed to Chemicals in Iraq

Why Small Coal-Fired Plants are Going Away

By December two coal-powered plants 30 miles southeast of Chicago that have been pumping out electricity for 55 years will be shut down. The plants work fine, but their owner, Edison International, agreed to close them as part of a broad agreement with Illinois designed to comply with tightening federal emission standards.
